MOUNTAIN OF STRAWBERRIES
The largest patch of Mediterranean forest in the world.
The largest concentration in the world, in a single territory, of black vultures and Iberian imperial eagles, two species as unique as they are threatened.
The only place in Europe that is home to all the birds of prey typical of the Mediterranean forest and where the also highly threatened black stork has a refuge where it can escape extinction.
Home to more than 280 species of vertebrates, it has been declared a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO.
All this makes Monfragüe a unique and fascinating environment.
The Romans called it Mons Fragorum because of its rough, abrupt and intricate terrain. Today it continues to maintain that indomitable character where an ecosystem of barely comparable biodiversity is shaken on the European continent. A landscape of mountains and extensive meadows crossed by the Tagus River and its tributary, the Tiétar, become an ideal environment for wildlife in its most varied forms, which are the protagonists of our documentary film.
Under the skies where the portentous silhouettes of the Iberian imperial eagle, the black vulture and the griffon or the black stork are silhouetted, the male Iberian deer fight tirelessly during the rut, herds of wild boar roam in search of food or the wild cat , the genet, the goshawk and the mongoose lie in wait for their next prey.
Every day, every season in Monfragüe means going into the heart of the Mediterranean forest.

ROOKIES MY FIRST DAYS IN LIFE
Being new to the game of wildlife is a constant challenge. Threats, from a hungry predator to an abusive brother or a world full of dangers to face alone without the support of parents, are constant for the rookies of many different animal species that star in our documentary in their first days of life. And it is also a time of learning, of continuous wonder, of games that strengthen them and prepare them for the adult life that awaits them.

HIDDEN NATURE IN GUINEA BISSAU
The Bijagós archipelago is a dream destination. Above all, if what you are passionate about, as is the case with biologist Raúl León, is small life, the one that is hidden from our eyes.
Raúl leads us in search of that life hidden by a maze of 88 islands, of which only 20 are inhabited, among which the Atlantic Ocean leaves a number of sand and silt banks afloat at low tide. The Bijagós belong to Guinea Bissau, on the west African coast, and have been recognized by UNESCO as a Biosphere Reserve. And without a doubt they deserve it, because their ecosystem is a true natural treasure due to its diversity and abundance, as Raúl is in charge of demonstrating to us during his explorations: armored insects, fish that live out of water, amphibians capable of enduring months away from water, snakes that bite without opening their mouths... The Bijagós have a lot to offer to those who love the wildest and most hidden Nature.

LA JAYONA A NEW BURIED WORLD
An abandoned mining operation in the southwest of the Iberian Peninsula became a gigantic open wound in the landscape. A dead scene of rocks and cavities.
But Nature began to take over that space. Station by station, life has taken over La Jayona until it has become what it is today: a unique enclave far removed from its surroundings that has been declared a Natural Monument.
Its microclimate allows the development of unique vegetation and is a refuge for a multitude of animal species from amphibians to the almighty eagle owl. Going into La Jayona is doing it in a new buried world.

THE ISLAND OF THE HIPPOS
On the beaches bathed by the Atlantic Ocean there is an island where you can see some strange footprints. They are because they should not be there since they belong to a hippopotamus, an animal that, in principle, is only found in fresh water. But those who live here are unique.
It is the only population of hippos that inhabits maritime-coastal waters and it is also the westernmost of the entire world distribution area of this mammal, related to cetaceans.

QUEENS OF ORANGO
What is it that makes these people special? It is not just the fact of living in balance and harmony with the spectacular nature that surrounds them, taking from the land or the sea only what they need to survive. Nor his deep animist spirituality, which marks his life with rites with which to honor and acquire the knowledge of his ancestors.
What makes them truly unique is that, in Bijagó society, the woman is the boss.
They are the ones who make the decisions.

THE BIRDS OF THE COLD
A family of cranes crosses Europe from end to end. Along with tens of thousands of their peers, they do not hesitate to risk a long, hard and hazardous journey that will take them to a place where nature does not surrender to cold and ice.
The parents accompany their children, born somewhere in Scandinavia that same summer that has just ended, to Extremadura in one of Nature's most amazing migratory journeys.

SONS OF SALIEGA
More than the tiger. Much more than the snow leopard.
The Iberian lynx is the most endangered feline on the planet.
At the beginning of this century, it was one step away from its final extinction. There were barely a hundred and fifty specimens of this beautiful and unique animal left, since it is only found in the Iberian Peninsula.
Then Saliega arrived. This female was the first to raise a litter of Iberian lynxes in captivity.

WILD
What is life like for horses when they live in the wild?
Answering this question is the driving force behind the scientific research project created and led by Lucy Rees, which is unique due to its characteristics in Europe.
It is located in the mountainous north of Extremadura, a region in the southwest of Spain, specifically in the Peña Negra.
And it is also the starting point of our documentary film.

I'M THE BEST
The storms that herald the end of summer, the shorter days and milder temperatures trigger a natural event that will shake the forests and pastures that cover the southern tip of the European continent.
It is the bellowing of the Iberian deer. Among the thicket, the fighters finally emerge from the depths of the forest wearing their best weapons and their gallant image.
Everything about them, from their lustrous horns to their gait and the bellows they utter without rest, is proclaiming
"I'm the best!".

A WINTER IN THE SOUTH
Winter in the holm and cork oak forests that cover the south of the Iberian Peninsula is far from being a time of silence and waiting for wild nature.
On the contrary, it lives an outbreak of life in which a multitude of emigrants looking for their winter paradise, some coming from the other end of the European continent, share space with the native, domestic and wild species, which populate them in an example of coexistence and sustainability.
A winter in the south is a season where life does not stop.

JERTE WILD LIFE IN THE VALLEY OF THE CHERRIES
Spring in Jerte is undoubtedly a magical time thanks to the cherry trees. And it is also due to the rich variety of animal and plant species that share this peculiar space, which is actually a mosaic of ecosystems as varied as they are fertile, sustained by the transparent blood of the furious torrents that carve the granite looking for the bottom of the valley of the cherry trees.

DEHESA
La Dehesa is unique.
The Dehesa is fragile.
La Dehesa is magical.
No other ecosystem in Europe is as rich in biodiversity as the one that occupies a good part of the southwest of the Iberian Peninsula. More than three million hectares of a singular and varied mosaic of environments that, hand in hand, century after century, human beings and Nature, as loyal allies, have been creating and sustaining together.

COME FROM HEAVEN
Extremadura, in the southwest of the Iberian Peninsula, is the setting where our history woven of fascinating stories unfolds. It is one of the regions with the greatest biodiversity on the European continent and a true ornithological paradise that is a pioneer within the EU in the creation of Special Protection Areas for Birds (ZEPA) in its urban environments. Montagu's harriers, sapper planes, bee-eaters, orioles, jackdaws, little owls, griffon vultures, starlings, swifts, rock doves, egrets, seagulls or spoonbills are some of the other protagonists of COMING FROM HEAVEN.

SPRING THE RETURN OF LIFE
Winter has turned this forest into a mineral landscape. Dark months dominated by cold seem to have fossilized the traces of life on the skin of the Earth. It is a hard time for everyone and definitely cruel to the weakest.
But something begins to change. Although frost and fog persist, an amazing transformation is set in motion thanks to the light of increasingly long days.
The spring revolution has begun.
